Prince Dumpling is Rosemead’s latest restaurant serving up dumplings, noodles, and traditional meat and seafood dishes. This is a great alternative if you’re looking for xiao long bao, walnut shrimp, and beef rolls under one roof. Honestly, I would rather eat at Prince Dumpling than 101 Noodle or Mama Lu’s any day. It does stand strongly up against Din Tai Fung.
The Prince Dumpling Experience
Prince Dumpling is located in the Universal Square Shopping Center in Rosemead. Although the parking lot is huge, it can get packed, so you may expect to park far. However, Prince Dumpling is sized fairly, so you shouldn’t expect to wait to be seated. One thing I have to commend about this restaurant is that they are QUICK about bringing the food out. You won’t be hanging out for a while having to wait for your order.
Wood Ear Mushrooms
The portion sizing of the wood ear mushrooms is BIG. I love this! I’m a huge fan of the vinegar sauce, so it’s recommended that you stir the wood ear mushrooms around so it can catch some of the sauce on the bottom. Otherwise, add your own black vinegar after serving yourself.
Cabbage with Jellyfish
I love jellyfish, and this dish did not disappoint. The jellyfish to cabbage ratio was GREAT. Jellyfish doesn’t really have a distinct taste. It’s a bit salty with a chewy (but soft) texture.
Rice Cakes with Shrimp
I love rice cakes and rice-based noodles (see chow fun). The rice cakes with shrimp dish was very flavorful, where the rice cake was sliced and served with some greens and shrimp. We found our winner for the next go-to place for rice cakes! All I am saying is, Din Tai Fung lists this for $17.50. Mr Dragon Noodle House? $15.99. Here? $15.95.
Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons
The spicy wontons dish is my all-time favorite. I used to order this dish to-go so many times. The dish is relatively easy to make, with some chili oil, light soy, and so on, but the clean up is a mess because you should not pour oil down the sink.
The Prince Dumpling Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao
When you enter Prince Dumpling, you can see the employees through the glass window, preparing xiao long bao. The xiao long bao was chef’s kiss – with the soup being flavorful and giving you that same level of satisfaction without waiting a long time while saving a few bucks.
Overall, I highly recommend checking out Prince Dumpling. Remember to drink a couple of glasses of water afterward so you don’t dehydrate with all that salt. That was my mistake, and I ended up in a food coma instead of making it to golf practice. But that’s okay! It’s worth the dining experience at Prince Dumpling!
