Over a year ago, I started my SoulCycle journey. I’ve been on 56 rides, and this has been a worthwhile experience. When it comes to wellness, I learned that it’s great to invest a bit for your health. I used to spend about $30 per month to go to 24 Hour Fitness or even my prior company’s gym. I thought that was a lot, even though I made fairly enough to comfortably cover that cost. Now, I spend that same amount per class (aka weekly). This is all in perspective – there are people who would pay $300 per month to go to Equinox. You do you, boo.
Quick & Dirty Intro
SoulCycle is an indoor cycling class where you are on a stationary bike while cycling and performing various upper-body movements while going down the playlist that the instructor curated. You’re peddling on the beat of the music. You’re standing up while cycling most of the time and sitting down when you need a sip of water or go for the true bicycle motion. The instructor can have you perform pushups, crunches, bows, and all sorts of combinations. Throughout the class, you’ll turn up and down the resistance – challenge yourself! Towards the end, there is a dedicated song for dumbbell workouts. After finishing the session, there is a cooldown stretch. 45 minutes of fun!
My SoulCycle Journey
I’ve tried other cycling classes, and SoulCycle has been my favorite. It is honestly the instructor who makes the biggest difference in your experience. I love the instructors who empower you and inherently motivate you through their energy throughout the session. Instructors who hype you up are the best. I’m okay paying for a class that makes me feel good physically and psychologically.
I try to attend class at least once per week. It’s honestly not enough, but it’s what my schedule permits. I’m a regular on Sundays at 8:30AM. I’m also at the point where I am comfortable enough to be in the front row. It’s a vibe because you’re extra pressured to follow all instructions to the dot… I’m not the best with the sprints, but I’m trying my best. I’ve been to some weekday 7:00AM and 5:30PM classes. They’re great, but I’m either rushing to or from work. When it comes to holidays, I take every advantage I can. For the past two weeks, I’ve been going 3-4 times per week.
85% of my rides have been with Diego. He’s the sweetest person and has the energy everyone needs in their life. SoulCycle has been such a vibe that Mario has joined me a few times. There are themed rides from time to time. I drove through LA’s heaviest rain and a flooded dip one time to make it to Wake and Drake. My cycling joke is that this experience feels like you’re going to the club or concert to work out.
The pandemic hit me hard when it comes to wellness. At some point, I was running a 5k twice per week but felt a bit incomplete. I replaced that with driving range Saturdays and SoulCycle Sundays.
You feel like you’re part of something. You celebrate and sweat together during the class. You cheer those around you on, especially when it’s their 1st, 25th, 50th, 100th, or even 1000th ride.
Come join SoulCycle and enjoy a ride on me.
