Akami Sushi is a high-quality sushi restaurant that opened in Arcadia this year. They have an extensive menu, whether you’re craving sushi boxes, à la carte, or omakase. I dined at Akami Sushi a few months ago for their omakase experience and had an exceptional time. Parking is limited; there is a small parking lot within the plaza for 10 cars, so you’re better off with residential street parking.
Akami Sushi Omakase Experience
An omakase experience at Akami Sushi can be reserved in advance through their Yelp page. Otherwise, normal dining experiences have to be a walk-in. The wait list can get long, so it is recommended to arrive before the restaurant opens to guarantee a spot right away. The service from all staff was great; no problems noted.
The Appetizer
The Akami Sushi omakase exprience started off with a simple trio appetizer: Oyster Shooter, Ankimo, and Tuna Tartare. I absolutely love ankimo, which is monkfish liver. It has a really rich flavor and is typically an acquired taste. Despite the monkfish being the ugliest fish in the sea, it is actually good.

Following the trio, a hamachi sashimi over a slice of strawberry is served. This is an interesting combination because I’d never think fruit would be served with sashimi.

The Nigiri
The omakase experience comes with 8 pieces of nigiri, all with different toppings, so this is not your typical dish. The fish tasted high-quality, without any of the fishy scent or taste. Of course, my favorite is the fatty tuna topped with caviar, followed by the uni. I love this dish because you don’t get basic offerings like a shrimp nigiri or unagi.

The Handroll
They willl serve youh a handroll that is wrapped in soy paper. The internals can differ from day to day, but mine came with real* crab meat.

The Pasta
Interestingly enough, they served me a sriracha mayo udon pasta dish topped with ikura and seaweed. It is actually good!

The Dessert
The omakase experience ends with a light pudding dessert. This is perfect to cleanse your palette. It is freshly made and was delicious!

Overall
I enjoyed my time at Akami Sushi and would love to come back to try out their sushi boxes and a la carte menu. The parking, again, isn’t ideal, but there should be plenty of safe residential parking, especially if you have a nice car. Highly recommend this restaurant for your next visit if you’re tired of the sushi restauerants in the San Gabirel Valley (or even Arcadia – so watch out, Sushi Kisen and Opus Sushi).
