Los Portales de Garcia is a gorgeous ocean-front and cliffside restaurant on the edge of Rosarito in Baja California. This restaurant is great if you’re looking for drinks, amazing seafood, live music, and an outstanding view of the Pacific Ocean.
Los Portales de Garcia: Things to Know
Although Los Portales de Garcia accepts credit cards inside, it’s good to bring cash. They accept US dollars, which is great, but know your conversion rate at the time. Additionally, parking may cost $$ (cash) (I believe we paid $5? 10?), and they might only accept cash tips. There is a lot to consider, so it is better to be safe than sorry. There is paid parking, but expect to park in the dirt. There are rocks everywhere, so be careful. However, once you’re in, it’s easy-going. You’ll see random booths as you enter the restaurant, and there are plenty of picture opportunities. This restaurant is fairly big and is a neighbor to Encanto Restaurant.
You can see the Pacific Ocean throughout the restaurant. As it is open air, expect it to be a bit cold as the breeze is powered by the cold waters. We went during the spring, so it was a bit chilly. Though, I’ll take that over the summer heat and flies.
Los Portales de Garcia Experience
The service was great and we had a Mariachi group do a serenade for our birthday queen. I love that there are bag holders, so you don’t need to squish them behind your chair. The fact that we felt safe at the restaurant was a huge bonus. The restaurant’s decor pays homage to the Mexican culture overall, from its chairs to art installations. They even have sombreros available for pictures! This is great!
The Food & Drinks
The food and drink are delicious. I ordered the octopus carpaccio, which featured cooked octopus that has been bundled, sliced thinly, drenched in lime juice/oil, and topped with micro greens. Pairing this with various crackers, bread, and blue corn tortilla chips was chef’s kiss.
Their menu also features steak and eggs, pancakes, chilaquiles, sopa, Thai salad, adobo, camarones, aguachile de ribeye, grilled octopus, and more. The menu is mostly in Spanish, but you can make out what most of the words mean. If not, you can always ask the staff for their recommendations.
The drinks were sweet, and the presentation was great. Cocktails were on the sweeter side, so if you’re looking for harder and isolated liquor, it’s also an option on the menu. You’ll see that a trend in Mexico is to be patient with food. You’re there to chill and have a great time.
This was a fun stop during our Baja California trip! It’s great even if you’re stopping by for a quick drink before heading to your next destination. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and loved the view of the Pacific ocean so much. Highly recommend a visit to Los Portales de Garcia.
The restaurant is fairly large, so you should be able to be seated fairly quickly.
This was our second stop as part of the Baja California weekend trip!

I absolutely love the look of Los Portales de Garcia and would like to eat there! It would be wonderful to visit Baja, California too as it seems to have a lot to offer. I really do need to actually travelling to places as I am clearly missing out!
