I finally upgraded to the TaylorMade Qi10 Max Driver. This is TaylorMade’s latest driver, which is available in Qi10, Qi10 Max, and Qi10 LS. The TaylorMade Qi10 Max is perfect for beginners like me who need forgiveness with distance and speed through its 10K inertia design. The Qi10 LS is great for fast swingers who need low spin (think Tiger Woods), and the regular Qi is right in the middle for a great combination of both the LS and Max worlds.
How We Got Here
Back in January 2024, we had a golf outing at Penmar in the rain, and of course, my driver snapped on hole #4. Luckily, I had that captured on video to see what happened. I had to play at Monarch Beach the following week, so I was desperate to get my driver fixed ASAP (considering that the TaylorMade Qi10 Max hadn’t been released at the time).
Roger Dunn fitted me with a stiff Ladies’ shaft. Since then, my driver shots haven’t felt the same, and I was not happy. I’ve practiced for weeks at the driving range and decided I needed a new driver in late February. A lot of it was attributed to self-manifestation (more like me gaslighting myself into thinking I need a new driver).
The TaylorMade Qi10 Max Driver
The TaylorMade Qi10 Max driver is available in a 10.5° and 12° loft, which can be adjusted higher/lower by up to 2° each way (with increments in between).
I had the 10.5° version and couldn’t figure out the teeing height and position. I ended up hitting the ball too high. Initially, it was a bit frustrating because it felt like I spent over $600 for a horrible swing! I realized it’s because I’m used to swinging with a 12° loft driver in the past. I adjusted the loft to 12.5°. Okay, we are getting somewhere.
Golf is different for everyone. We’re all at different levels, swings, etc. One size does not fit everyone. Obviously, a lower loft degree would yield a greater distance. You’ll have days where your swing is ON POINT, while experiencing other days where you feel like you should quit playing golf.
Now We’re Here
The clip below shows where we started with the original driver and where I bought the new driver. I LOVED how it felt upon contact.
I spent weeks trying to fix my swing, and after fixing the loft degree, I started seeing results. I started hitting 200yds consistently. I hit 220yds last weekend on hole #2 of the Altadena Golf Course (in one of the scenes below).
We redeemed ourselves.
That $600 Taylormade Qi10 Max was worth every penny.
People will say we can still produce the same results with different drivers. It’s about the technique. Honestly, yes. If you have a good swing, tempo, and form, your ball will go down the fairway, regardless of what you use.
Knowing me, I am extra and will always go the extra mile.
