Pasadena Dining Guide to Fishwives

Fishwives is the go-to spot for hot and cold seafood in Pasadena. Whether you’re looking for a lobster roll with beer or some oysters with a wine pairing, this restaurant has it all. It is recommended that you book a reservation so you don’t have to risk the chance of waiting for a table to clear.

Oldtown Pasadena is a bit tricky, but there is limited street parking and plenty of structured parking nearby. Overall, the service is great, and I look forward to coming back to Fishwives for more seafood goodness.

The Fishwives Peruvian Scallops

The Peruvian Scallops are served with a bit of citrus marinade, which was absolutely stunning. I felt like I could eat a couple more plates of this! The scallops were fairly sized, so you know you’re not getting cheaped out on.

The Fishwives Oysters

If you’re looking for oysters, Fishwives has you covered with their very extensive selection. Honestly, I was a bit lost with all of my options. I have you covered with this cheat sheet. Note that the options here may be seasonal and are captured at a point in time. I’m sharing the more popular oysters on top, but all are still great options and up to your personal preference.

  • Kumamoto: Small oyster with a mild salty brine and a sweet/fruity (honeydew/cucumber) finish.
  • Shigoku: Small/medium oyster with a strong salty brine and a sweet (cucumber/melon) finish.
  • Fat Bastards: Medium/large oyster with a savory brine and a sweet finish (larger/stronger tasting version of shigoku).
  • Misty Point: Medium oyster with a salty brine and a sweet/earthy (celery/grass) finish.
  • Baywater Sweets: Small/medium oyster with a salty brine and strong sweet (honeydew/melon) finish.
  • Sunseeker: Small/medium oyster with a mild sweet/salty brine and a melon finish.
  • Chef Creek: Medium oyster with a medium salty brine, and a sweet (lettuce) finish.
  • Cortes Island: Small/medium oyster with a mild salty brine, and a sweet/fruity (watermelon/earthy) finish.
  • Minterbrook: Medium/large oyster with a high salty brine, and a mineral/melony finish.
  • Barachois: Medium/large oyster with a sweet/salty brine.
  • Moon Rocks: Small oyster with a sweet brine.

My favorite oyster is the Kumamoto; it’s always the safest bet. I prefer the smaller oysters due to their sweet finish. The larger oysters are more desirable as Rockefeller’s.
