Take Care of Yourself
How are we almost in September? January felt like last week. For the past year, I kept myself occupied week after week, whether it was attending golf outings, brunch, dinner, exercising, traveling, or any other events. I started reflecting and realized I was distracting myself from actually improving and taking care of myself. All of this resulted in me becoming burned out, and I ended up no longer being myself.
Hot Girl Summer is still here, and I started tuning into myself again so I can actually live my best life intentionally.
I finally stayed in and cleaned out anything that had bad energy. That included material things, people, and anything else in between. I threw out bags of junk, replaced anything of value, and removed people who do not have good intentions for me. It took me some thought process and setting aside my ego of “let them watch me all they want”. The perception doesn’t matter anymore because if people have negative thoughts about you, nothing will change. The same went for evaluating whether people will be there for me if something bad happens. This really changed my perspective on my relations with others.
Taking care of yourself also involves reviewing your finances. What are you spending your money on? I used to love going to Daiso and spending money on junk that I end up not using. As time went on, it moved on to other things, like social clubs and events. I was recently auto-renewed for a social club and a workout studio, and I fought tooth and nail to cancel and get a refund. Why am I paying for a social club or workout studio when I barely go to their events or classes? I also reevaluated why I attended certain events. Is it the FOMO? I’m a golf girlie, why am I paying to play tennis even though I barely know how to play and don’t care for it? A real test of character is seeing how founders react when I am no longer interested; will they give you a hard time about refunding you, or will they respect your decision with no questions asked? It is okay to support people if you’re getting a worthwhile experience in return. I’ve skipped out on a $250 tournament when the tee time is usually $60, and I end up throwing away 99% of the goodie bag content anyway.
Golf this summer took a bit of a backseat; playing in the heat is difficult, and I’ve been dealing with an injury. Perhaps I was overexerting myself with practice. I hadn’t played golf in three weeks, but I finally played again last week at Monarch Beach. 201yds with a 5 wood is INSANE WORK.
At the end, all of this… I honestly needed time for myself. I have a general idea of who I want to be. It’ll always be a work in progress.
It’s okay to take a step back for yourself. Take some time to love yourself.
