The Random Golf Club is hosting the Mad Scramble Tour again this year. This brings a different vibe to golf: 100 golfers through 9 holes in a true scramble format. Amongst the 100 golfers, there are a hundred opportunities for a hole in one, eagle, and even a par. There are four brackets, separated by the regions of the US. Each city is competing against the others through its local golf courses. It’s all about novelty and good vibes.
Random Golf Club is a lifestyle collective. They host tournaments, golf events, and have a great selection of apparel/accessories. They even have a membership box. I have an RGC hat. I ended up rocking my golf club’s hat.
The Mad Scramble Tour
I happened to land in Orlando that afternoon and had time to kill. I love how the stars aligned where Random Golf Club hosted their stop at the Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, 20 minutes from the airport. I purchased the spectator’s ticket because I didn’t want to rent or bring my own clubs. My flight ended up being delayed. By the time I arrived at Shingle Creek, they were already on hole 2. That’s perfect!
The vibes were so high – I got to meet a bunch of fun golfers. They extended their arms with the warmest hospitality. Golf is great.
I got to take a swing on the 9th hole tee box. I scoured around for a golf club. I can’t play with men’s clubs, but since Ping sponsored Random Golf Club, I got to try out their driver with the senior flex shaft. Needless to say, that was a 178yd drive without a proper warm-up. I’m more comfortable with my own driver (TaylorMade Qi10 Max), but I’m happy with how that ended up! I had a great time, and I’m excited for when they arrive in Los Angeles later this summer.
What to Expect
Depending on which golf course the scramble takes place on, you’re only playing nine holes.
- A little chaos. You’re playing with 99 other golfers at the same tee time. There’s no foursome. This is a hundredsome.
- Be quick and ready – they’re trying to cycle through 100 golfers for the best shot.
- Expect to lose balls. Be ballsy or leave your Pro V1’s at home. I might have picked up someone else’s TP5 that was never claimed.
- Don’t expect to have the best shot. We witnessed some guys hitting over 300yd bombs to the fairway. Eagle opportunities were everywhere.
- You’re walking with your clubs. A cart is great, but it takes up space. Expect to carry your bag. You don’t need all of your clubs – shed some weight if you can.
- Good vibes.
I love that the goodie bag came with some cool gear. Tom Holland (Spider-Man) has a non-alcoholic beer company called Bero, which sponsored the Mad Scramble Tour. I got to try out a couple of non-alcoholic beers, and they tasted the same without the woozy effect. I am a fan. The goodie bag also came with a hat, 3D printed golf bag tag, divot fixer, tees, koozie, and the Mad Scramble Tour patch.
Highly recommend attending one of the Mad Scramble Tour events if there’s one coming to your town!
